World Spirometry Day

To mark World Spirometry Day, Coachella Valley residents are invited to the Eisenhower Multispecialty Clinic (north side of Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center) on Wednesday, June 27 for free lung capacity testing between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Clinic will be conducted by Hassan Bencheqroun, MD, a Pulmonary Disease Specialist who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Reservations are not required. For questions, please call 760-834-3564.

The event is just one of a number of public tests being held around the world as part World Spirometry Day, which aims at encouraging more people to get their lungs tested for an early indication of diseases such as asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease — an umbrella term for chronic bronchitis and emphysema, in which the airways to the lungs become narrowed.

Spirometry is the most accurate measure of lung health — giving patients valuable knowledge about the permanent damage they may be inflicting on their lungs. The public is encouraged to take the free, five-minute test to help diagnose various lung conditions. Additionally, pulse oximetry will be provided. Pulse oximetry tests are non-invasive and measure the amount of oxygen in the blood.

Eisenhower Medical Center’s Respiratory Care Department is one of nearly 500 (approximately 10 percent of hospitals) in the United States who have received Quality Respiratory Care Recognition from the American Association for Respiratory Care and have maintained this quality recognition since 2007.
