INTENDED AUDIENCE
This activity was developed for physicians, nurses with critical care, telemetry/step down and emergency medicine experience, respiratory therapists, and other allied health professionals.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this activity is to focus on issues related to the care of critically ill patients. Evidence-based practice will be emphasized in an effort to assist nurse, physicians, and other allied health professionals to provide quality care.
Learning Objectives
- Provide examples from films illustrating ethics issues pertaining to professional behaviors
- Articulate concepts for the treatment of patients with ARDS
- Understand the applications for use of Ultrasound in Critical Care
- Identify concepts for the use of Therapeutic Hypothermia after Cardiac Arrest
- Recognize patients who suffer from poisoning and identify treatment used in the care of these patients

Learning Objectives
- Identify indications for placement of central lines
- Identify indications for placement of arterial lines
- Integrate proper insertion techniques after demonstration
- Understand potential hazards and complications from central line insertion and placement
- Demonstrate proper techniques for central line and arterial line insertion
- Articulate the appropriate procedure for insertion of lines and demonstrate the correct documentation for this procedure
- Identify the components of the Centers for Disease Control "CLIP" and understand the necessity of the adherence monitoring procedure
