Eisenhower Medical Center Diabetes Program

Since its inception in 1974, the Diabetes Program at  Eisenhower Medical Center has provided educational classes, lectures and individual instruction for diabetic residents of the Coachella Valley. It is the first program in the Coachella Valley to achieve recognition by the American Diabetes Association.

Eisenhower's Diabetes Program is taught by registered nurses, registered dieticians and other health care professionals with expertise and training in diabetes education.

Goals and Objectives

Successful control of diabetes depends on cooperation between the individual with diabetes and the health care team. 

The primary goal of Eisenhower's Diabetes Program is to offer evidence-based curriculum and current information about Diabetes Mellitus to individuals with diabetes, family members and the community.

Diabetic Education/Support

Individual and Group Instruction

For those who have a physician referral and meet insurance requirements, the professional staff of the Diabetes Program offers individual or group instruction and activities designed to promote self-management skills in nutrition, blood glucose monitoring, medication administration adn other diabetes-related subjects.

Family members are encouraged to support their loved one by attending the sessions. Spanish speaking educators are available.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Individual nutrition counseling provided by a registered dietician with a credential in diabetes education can assist in helping people with diabetes develop healthy eating habits. A physician referral is required.

Community Education

For diabetics, Eisenhower's Diabetes Program offers classes throughout the year. These classes are free to the community. Click on Calendar to see a list of classes available by month.

Support Group
