Eisenhower Celebrates Partnership
Eisenhower Medical Center is proud to be a health partner with The LGBT Community Center of the Desert (The Center) in Palm Springs. The partnership features health education and other resources for the community and a yearly-grant for three years in support of The Center.
“Eisenhower sees the tremendous value in a community organization specifically dedicated to health and wellness for this region’s vibrant LGBT community,” says Carl Enzor, Chief Administrative Officer, Eisenhower Health Centers at Palm Springs. “We have extensive resources to share with this community and are committed to being a good partner here.”
The Center has expanded health and wellness offerings to the community and this partnership will specifically provide six annual health screenings on site, offered free for members, that include blood pressure, mammograms, glucose monitoring, heart rate and more. Other planned programs include memory exercises and screenings, and a series of speaking engagements by Eisenhower physicians is already underway. Given the three year scope of the partnership, more programs will roll out over time and in response to community needs.
“Eisenhower is a friend to our community and is emerging as a leader in meeting health needs of the LGBT community,” says John O’Connor, Executive Director, The Center. “With these program resources and funding, The Center will now be able to expand into new directions such as smoking cessation, nutrition education, health screenings and other wellness activities.”
The mission of The Center is to enrich the lives of the LGBT community. A thriving, community-based organization, The Center provides a safe and supportive environment for members to enjoy health, wellness, educational and social programs, where people of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. The Center advances its mission through senior programming, a clinical counseling and internship program, a weekly food bank, youth suicide prevention and support, extensive social and recreational offerings, a David Bohnett cyber center, a growing volunteer program and periodic special events in the community.
