On Wednesday, March 23, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower will hold a Community Children’s Day in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center on the campus of Eisenhower Medical Center and feature face painting, music, clowns and refreshments.

During the festivities, ground will be broken for the Center’s new healing garden. The first phase will include a gazebo, seating, flowers and shrubs. The garden will offer a serene location where therapists can conduct individual or group counseling sessions. Here, clients can comfortably manage and communicate their feelings and problems in a setting designed for calm reflection, open sharing and contemplation.

The Champions Volunteer Foundation raised initial funds to establish the garden in honor of Mrs. Sinatra’s friend, Julie Copeland. The Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center is currently raising funds to complete the garden with its Brick by Brick campaign. Community members can donate a Big Heart Brick ($1,000 each), a Building Brick ($250 each) or an Inspiration Brick ($50 each).

The Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center’s mission is to counsel sexually, physically and emotionally abused children, and to focus on prevention, community education and breaking the cycle of generational abuse. No child is ever turned away due to a family’s inability to pay.

The March 23 Community Children’s Day and groundbreaking ceremony is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at 760-773-1636.
