Celebrating 40 Years

In 1969, Eisenhower Medical Center broke ground on 80 acres of open desert, writing a new chapter in the history of this great Valley. A new vision of health care excellence was born, and during the past 40 years, thousands of dedicated physicians, staff and community leaders have collaborated to create one of the finest health care systems in the nation.

In December 1971, Eisenhower opened to admit our very first patient, and each year, we have moved forward to provide the best health care possible, to expand our services to meet the changing needs of our community, and now, to lay a solid foundation for our Teaching Hospital.

As we celebrate our 40th Anniversary, we celebrate visionaries, past and present, who provide generous philanthropic support for the ongoing growth of Eisenhower Medical Center. On page 28, you will find personal statements from individuals and couples who are absolutely inspired by what a Teaching Hospital will provide for our Valley.

In this issue of Healthy Living, we focused on some of the newest technologies and minimally invasive techniques available in orthopedics. Football legend Tom Flores, a Super Bowl-winning player and coach four times over, shares his story of two successful rotator cuff surgeries through the expertise of Orthopedic Surgeon Patrick St. Pierre, MD. Our Physicians Roundtable features an in-depth discussion by some of Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center’s physicians about new surgical options for patients for a variety of orthopedic concerns.

In this New Year, we have much for which to be thankful — and at Eisenhower Medical Center, we are especially thankful to be a part of this wonderful community. When you need us, we’ll be here.

In good health,

G. Aubrey Serfling
President and Chief Executive Officer
