  • Dr. Doohan received her Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry from Mills College in Oakland before finishing her doctorate in molecular biology and biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Doohan received her MD at Stanford University School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center in Martinez affiliated with the University of California, Davis.

“When I was a young person living in a small rural town in northern California, I thought about whose work I admired most in the community. Who was doing something I could do for a lifetime?” says Dr. Doohan. “And the person I most admired was the family doctor. I thought he had the best job, delivering babies and making house calls. He really inspired me.”

Dr. Doohan’s early fascination with full spectrum family medicine has stayed with her over the years, and her clinical practice includes hospital medicine, house calls, traditional outpatient clinic practice, as well as global health work. She is passionate about helping patients achieve maximal health through a focus on prevention and wellness.

“When people become educated about the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle, they become very motivated. One of the roles of primary care physicians is to educate their communities. We can actually help make the community healthier,” says Dr. Doohan. “It’s exciting to be part of the Eisenhower Wellness Institute where we look at the whole picture of health. We not only provide medical consultations but we also have classes and speakers. We are offering a comprehensive approach to help people live healthier lives.”

As the Director of the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at Eisenhower Medical Center, Dr. Doohan enjoys taking care of patients of all ages, in all phases of health and illness. Her clinical focus includes the care of the hospitalized patient. Additionally, she is core faculty in the Eisenhower Family Medicine Residency Program, where future family physicians will be trained in excellent primary care.

Dr. Doohan is a mother of two children, who are now college age. Family life and enjoying the great outdoors are sources of relaxation for her. Humanitarian medical work and teaching family medicine are her ongoing sources of inspiration.
