THERE ARE TWO
TYPES OF STROKE:
Ischemic stroke occurs when an artery to the brain is blocked. It is the result of an obstruction or blockage in a blood vessel leading to the brain. If an artery is blocked, as many as 1.9 million brain cells per minute may die. This is why immediate medical treatment is critical.
A hemorrhage results from a weakened vessel that ruptures and bleeds into the surrounding brain. The blood accumulates and compresses the surrounding brain tissue. When this occurs, the brain tissue does not get the oxygen it needs and the tissue can die within minutes.
