City of Indian Wells Donates $5 Million to Campaign Eisenhower

The City of Indian Wells recently awarded Eisenhower Medical Center a $5 million grant for Campaign Eisenhower, the Center’s capital campaign. The funds will be used for Eisenhower’s capital expansion, which includes a new 168-bed acute care pavilion, and the state mandated seismic requirements throughout the Rancho Mirage campus. In addition, Eisenhower Medical Center will open an Eisenhower Urgent Care Center in Indian Wells, the first in the city, and re-name the Center for Healthy Living, Eisenhower Indian Wells Center for Healthy Living.

Indian Wells city leaders were extremely supportive of the grant, and in an emotional public hearing, were resoundingly assured of the support and approval of Indian Wells residents. “It is a worthwhile project and something that I think will benefit the people here in…the Coachella Valley,” said then Mayor of Indian Wells Percy Byrd. “We support it.”

Residents will soon be able to seek medical care closer to home, within their own city limits. “This is Eisenhower’s way of making its health care services even more accessible to Indian Wells residents,” explains Michael D. Landes, President, Eisenhower Medical Center Foundation. “It’s something substantive we can do for the city’s generous support.”

Eisenhower Medical Center expects to open the Eisenhower Urgent Care Center by December in a location that would be central to both Palm Desert and Indian Wells. Urgent care centers provide a broad spectrum of health care for non lifethreatening conditions, such as flu, colds, sinus infections, sore throats, allergies, earaches, minor cuts, sprains and fractures.
