ANNENBERG DONATIONS TO CAMPAIGN EISENHOWER REACH $100 MILLION
Mrs. Annenberg’s most recent donation brings the total of the Annenbergs’ contributions to Eisenhower Medical Center’s current capital campaign to an astounding $100 million—a truly magnificent milestone in the enduring relationship between the Annenbergs and Eisenhower Medical Center.
In addition to reaching this remarkable milestone, Mrs. Annenberg’s $10 million gift marks the second of two significant contributions she made to Eisenhower in 2007. The first contribution occurred in January 2007, when Mrs. Annenberg donated $30 million to launch Campaign Eisenhower Phase Two and to break ground on the new Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion. This additional $10 million gift underscores Mrs. Annenberg’s unparalleled dedication to Eisenhower and the future of health care excellence.
“Words can not adequately express our profound gratitude to Mrs. Walter Annenberg, not only for this generous gift, but also for the substantial support she and the late Ambassador have given Eisenhower Medical Center for more than 30 years,” notes Harry M. Goldstein, Chairman of the Board, Eisenhower Medical Center. “With philanthropic support totaling $100 million just to Campaign Eisenhower, their benevolence is unsurpassed and has allowed Eisenhower Medical Center to continue our vital capital expansion that will help fund projects imperative to our patients, including the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion.”
Mrs. Annenberg’s late husband, Walter Annenberg, was an Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s. He was a Founding Trustee of Eisenhower Medical Center and Honorary Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Annenberg served as United States Chief of Protocol with the rank of Ambassador under President Reagan. Preeminent philanthropists and humanitarians, Ambassador and Mrs. Annenberg’s keen vision, steadfast dedication and extraordinary generosity have provided both inspiration and impetus to both the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences and to Eisenhower Medical Center since their inceptions.
The new $212.5 million Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion is currently under construction and will meet state requirements for seismic safety mandated by Senate Bill 1953. The 160-bed Annenberg Pavilion will house patient rooms fully equipped with the latest monitoring capabilities and medication dispensing technologies as well as additional beds for critical care units.
“We are truly honored by Mrs. Annenberg’s continued commitment to Eisenhower Medical Center,” says G. Aubrey Serfling, President and Chief Executive Officer, Eisenhower Medical Center. “Her generosity provides the essential support needed to build state-of-the-art facilities and to continue offering advanced life-saving technologies to all of our residents.”
