MIRAMAR AIR SHOW
Held at the Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, just 15 minutes from downtown San Diego, this world-class air show features several million dollars of aircraft and draws more than 700,000 spectators. The 2010 MCAS Miramar Air Show runs nearly seven hours each day with performances by the world’s best military and civilian pilots. The show also features more than 100 military and civilian display aircraft, simulation rides so you can step into the cockpit, an air show expo and a gift and food area. The gates open at 8 a.m. daily, and the shows start at 9 a.m.
The MCAS Miramar Air Show is open to the public with free general admission and parking. Adult grandstand seats start at $6.25 and $4.25 for children. Purchase tickets at miramarairshow.com or by calling 1-877-772-5425.
This unique service offers biplane, air combat and warplane flights seven days a week from 11 a.m. to sunset year round.
Biplane riders board a perfectly restored 1920s airplane and fly low over beaches, lakes and vineyards. You are in constant communication with the pilot.
How about flying your own special dogfight aircraft? You’ll fly under the guidance of an assigned pilot — most are active United States Marine Corps and Navy fighter pilots. No pilot’s license or experience required.
Or, fly in a warbird. Relive the glory days of aviation in a 1941 North American SNJ-4 Texan. A pilot is assigned for your flight and sits in the front cockpit. Experience loops, rolls, half Cuban eights and more.
The Sunset Special, the last flight of the day is a favorite. The company also has a Sunset Special Fly/Dine package, which includes a 60-minute sunset flight, followed by dinner at the Park Hyatt Aviara®.
Packages range from $200 to $700. A gentle ride is provided unless you ask for some thrills. Reservations are required for all flights. Book at least a week in advance at 1-800-SKY-LOOP.
