Medical Director of Eisenhower Tennity Emergency Department
Every month, Eisenhower Medical Center employees recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of the Center’s medical staff by awarding a physician the Eisenhower Physician of the Month Award. A number of factors are considered: outstanding patient care, exceptional leadership, dedication to teamwork, mentorship of staff, contributions to the community, and an unwavering commitment to excellence at Eisenhower.
At the end of each year, the hospital staff selects one physician from the monthly award winners as the Eisenhower Medical Center Physician of the Year. For 2009, Eisenhower selected Euthym Kontaxis,MD,Medical Director of Eisenhower’s Tennity Emergency Department to receive this prestigious honor.
The Physician of the Year award was announced and presented to Dr. Kontaxis on March 30, 2010.Accepting the award on behalf of “all of my physician colleagues at the hospital,”Dr. Kontaxis explained: “I have met them all, at probably the worst moments of our lives — middle of the night, weekends, all sorts of days, holidays — and have extracted the best of them at those times. I can honestly say that down to an individual, each physician of this staff has, over the years, stepped up in a big way to take care of people who need them, and at times when they didn’t want to, or have to, or need to, they willingly helped....Why? Because they actually like to do it!”
Dr. Kontaxis has been practicing Emergency Medicine for 24 years, and has been with Eisenhower for more than eight years. In addition to his medical degree from Oregon Health Sciences University,Dr. Kontaxis has a Masters of Divinity from Holy Cross Theological School in Cambridge.Dr. Kontaxis completed his degree while working as an attending physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Mount Auburn Hospital in Massachusetts.
