In addition, it is my pleasure to announce that the Eisenhower Joint Replacement Center is again ranked number two in the state of California for the total number of hip and knee replacements performed here — second only to Hoag Hospital. This statistic is even more impressive when you recognize that Hoag Hospital is more than twice the size of Eisenhower Medical Center.
Eisenhower’s Joint Replacement Center is comprised of an elite team of Eisenhower professionals, from surgeons to nurses to physical therapists, who combine to provide the very best patient care and the very best clinical outcomes. The Center is highly patient-focused, providing the optimum patient experience through the synergy of extraordinary physicians, unparalleled patient education, the most advanced clinical pathways and surgical techniques, and state-of-the-art technologies and equipment.
In America today, more than 43 million people have been diagnosed with arthritis — a too-prevalent disease, painful and disabling. In this issue’s “Physicians Roundtable,” Healthy Living assembles three Eisenhower physicians — Philip Shaver, MD, Maria Greenwald,MD, and Joel Hirschberg, MD — to discuss the latest clinical breakthroughs and medical treatments for arthritis. While 90 percent of all arthritis is the painful and degenerative osteoarthritis, there are many medications and treatments that restore an arthritis sufferer’s quality of life.
Also in this Healthy Living, Eisenhower “breaks ground” to expand our Emergency Department. April 27 began construction of the new Tennity Emergency Department that will include 38 private treatment rooms and more than double the existing size. On this day, we also honored Marilyn Tennity, and her late husband Bill, for their ongoing support in the creation of Eisenhower’s new Tennity Emergency Department. We are all deeply grateful for the Tennity’s extreme generosity and vision.
As always, if there is anything you would like us to cover in Healthy Living, your magazine, let us know.
Yours in good health,
G. Aubrey Serfling President and Chief Executive Officer Eisenhower Medical Center
