New Strides in Health Care ExcellenceBy: G. Aubrey Serfling
The beginning of every “season” in the Valley brings with it a welcome relief from the heat and the anticipation of visitors who will enjoy the desert’s beauty. At Eisenhower, the summer brought exciting achievements that will keep us at the forefront of health care for many seasons to come.
I am pleased to announce that Eisenhower’s efforts to become a Teaching Hospital have moved a very important step forward. In October, we learned that both the Internal Medicine and Family Medicine programs received full accreditation. In July 2012, we will begin to recruit fourth year medical students and in July 2013, we will welcome our first residents in both programs. I encourage you to learn more about the Teaching Hospital and our Center for Family Medicine, beginning on page 46.
In July, we opened the largest Inpatient Rehabilitation Center in the Valley, housed in the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Pavilion. With 23 beds for patients recovering from stroke, orthopedic surgical procedures and other conditions, the Center provides intensive physical rehabilitation, an important service for our community as only 12 beds were previously available in the entire Valley. (See page 8 for more information.)
This issue of Healthy Living is focused on women’s health and the many options women in our community have for their care — right here in the Valley. From integrative medicine, to specialists in cardiology, oncology, orthopedics and gynecology, to surgeons who are using technology in innovative ways to treat complex conditions…Eisenhower is here to provide our community with excellent care.
Thank you for supporting Eisenhower Medical Center — and remember we will be here, with excellence, when you need us.
In good health,
G. Aubrey Serfling
President and Chief Executive Officer
