  • Eisenhower Goes Pink!

To view and vote for Eisenhower’s Pink Glove Video, click here.

In support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Eisenhower is participating in the Medline Pink Glove Dance Video Competition. The inspiration behind Eisenhower Medical Center’s Pink Glove video was the word HOPE. For someone faced with a new diagnosis of breast cancer, hope might feel next to impossible to achieve. We wanted this video to be filled with amazing energy, smiles and lots of pink to give anyone whose life has been touched by breast cancer a sense of hope, a feeling that they are not alone, and that they have our support. Breast cancer affects not only the patient but everyone who loves them.

Top winners in three categories earn a $15,000 donation to the cancer charity of their choice. Help Eisenhower win for Desert Cancer Foundation!!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Eisenhower’s events include:

  • Only at Eisenhower: Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)

For years, Laverne Romero of Cathedral City had suffered from episodes of excruciating pain in her upper abdomen.

“It felt like I was having explosions on both sides of my abdomen, and the pain was so horrible it would knock me out for days,” the Cathedral City resident relates. “I’d also have diarrhea and vomiting, but the doctors said they couldn’t find anything and had no idea what it was.”

She once even had exploratory surgery — and there still was no explanation for her symptoms. Then, after another bout of pain sent her to the emergency department at Eisenhower Medical Center, she finally got answers — and relief.

“Ms. Romero’s gallbladder was inflamed and she underwent surgery to have it removed,” explains Geoffrey Block, MD, MSc, FACP, Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. “The surgeon also ordered a cholangiography (an X-ray examination of the bile ducts to identify any obstructions) and saw a tumor coming up her bile duct.”

The surgeon referred Romero to Dr. Block for what’s called endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). Notably, Dr. Block is the only physician between the Los Angeles region and Phoenix who performs EUS, an extremely precise procedure to diagnose and treat conditions in the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, bile ducts and intestines — without surgery. read more...
