“The relationship between the physician and the patient is key to good health,” says Dr. Avila. “There has to be good communication, education and a very coordinated and supportive approach. I help my patients make the best health decisions for themselves through personal lifestyle interventions that promote early detection and prevention of disease.”

She maintained a private practice in Preventive Medicine and Primary Care, and was Medical Director of the Wellness and Lifestyle Center at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii. Dr. Avila was also the Medical Director for the Women’s Health Center at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.

Before living in Hawaii, Dr. Avila had a private practice in San Diego and was lead primary care physician for the USA Arco Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.

Dr. Avila has continued to teach throughout her medical career; as a lecturer/mentor at John Burns Medical School of Hawaii, the Family Practice Residency faculty training for UCSD, the Sharp Family Residency Program and the Stanford University Associate Program. She is also the author of Olympic Sports and Fitness, published by Penmarin Books/Bookmark Publishers.

In addition to spending time with her husband, Dr. Avila enjoys playing the violin, acrylic painting, outrigger canoe paddling and yoga (former instructor).

“I am thrilled to be the Medical Director of the Eisenhower Wellness Institute and a Primary Care 365 physician, which will bring the tools and concepts of Preventive Medicine to the community,” says Dr. Avila. “As human beings, we are not perfect, and we can all benefit from on-going health education, lifestyle change support, and the knowledge that we have the ability to achieve a healthy, quality life at any age.”
