Board Certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Aurora Benson received her medical degree from Michigan State University and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Oakland General Hospital.
Dr. Benson was always interested in the sciences and medicine and aimed to become a physician at an earlier age. “I was always interested in reading about medicine in Time® and Newsweek® magazines, following famous surgeons and keeping up on recent research,” states Dr. Benson.
Dr. Benson gravitated towards specializing in Family Medicine as she wanted to care for patients of all ages, a variety of diseases. “I wanted to experiences a little bit of everything,” states Dr. Benson. “Family Practice affords me to be involved with generations of people within the same family and care for people with all kinds of illnesses and conditions. It is very rewarding and I so enjoy the long-term relationships.”
In talking with new patients, I let them talk and I listen. It is important to hear and understand what patients are interested in and saying about their health and lifestyle. Understanding their point-of-view, their likes and dislikes help me know what motivates them,” states Dr. Benson. “Everyone has a unique story and I try to care for the whole person, not just the disease or condition that brings them to me.”
Dr. Benson has a passion for the outdoors, is an avid hiker and practices yoga regularly.
