New Inpatient Rehabilitation Center Now Open
“Eisenhower’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Center is an integral part of the continuum of care,” says Michael Weinstein, MD, Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. “We provide three hours of therapy a day with 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care coverage in a new, beautiful environment that promotes healing.”
Prior to the Center opening, there were only 12 inpatient rehabilitation beds in the entire Coachella Valley. Moreover, patients faced the difficult decision of seeking inpatient care at a skilled nursing facility where they would receive much less intensive therapy or traveling hours to rehabilitation units in San Diego or Riverside.
Eisenhower’s 23-bed, state-of-the-art Center fills this gap, providing intensive therapy by a multidisciplinary team of physical, occupational, recreational and speech therapists, rehabilitation nurses, physiatrists, social workers, case managers, rehabilitation psychologists, dietitians and pharmacists.
The Center cares for patients recovering from stroke, brain injury, spinal cord dysfunction, amputation, joint replacement, and neuromuscular, arthritic conditions and other conditions that have impaired their independence. Additionally, both the patient and their family will learn to manage impairments that affect self care, mobility, communication, cognitive skills and other activities for daily living.
Equipped with five private rooms and nine semi-private rooms, the Center’s design is not only state-ofthe- art, but also aesthetically appealing. It has a large open space for gait and transfer training, a training kitchen and bathroom, outdoor training space, and cardio and strength training equipment.
Equally important is the quality of staff in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. “With our rehabilitation nurses and specially trained staff, our patients will receive the intense therapy they need to prepare themselves for daily living and to regain their independence and quality of life,” adds Dr. Weinstein.
The new Inpatient Rehabilitation Center seeks to create a compassionate and safe environment, using a patient-centered approach to care and healing by creating an individualized treatment plan based on impairments (what type of disease caused the dysfunction), activity limitations (disabilities) and participation limitations (community integration). The program is individualized to each patient’s specific needs.
