The Gold Seal Of Approval
Eisenhower Joint Replacement Center Certified For Total Knee And Total Hip By Joint Commission
Eisenhower Medical Center’s Joint Replacement Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for both Total Hip Replacement and Total Knee Replacement. Eisenhower Medical Center is one of only 60 hospitals in the United States to receive both certifications.
To earn this distinction, Eisenhower’s Joint Replacement Center underwent an extensive, on-site evaluation by a surveyor with The Joint Commission. An assessment of the Center’s processes, its ability to evaluate and improve care within the hospital, and interviews with patients and staff are evaluated against the high standards set forth by The Joint Commission.
“This two-year certification means Eisenhower Medical Center does the right things and does them well for knee and hip replacement patients,” said Jean E. Range, MS, RN, CPHQ, executive director, Disease-Specific Care Certification, Joint Commission.
“Eisenhower Medical Center voluntarily pursued this comprehensive, independent evaluation to enhance the safety and quality of care we provide,” says Louise White, Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services. “We are so incredibly proud to achieve this distinction. Not only does it underscore the high level of care our dedicated physicians and staff provide our orthopedic patients every day, but also demonstrates that we have met or exceeded national standards of excellence.”“...I have seen this excellent service line improve in every facet of patient care. Our team has worked very hard to provide the best and most modern care for our patients.”—John Velyvis, MD
Knee and hip replacement are among the many procedures performed at Eisenhower Joint Replacement Center. The Center’s multidisciplinary team is at the forefront of minimally invasive, orthopedic procedures including innovative approaches to orthopedic surgery such as MAKOplasty®. One member of the Center’s team is John Velyvis, MD, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. “I am very proud to be affiliated with the Eisenhower Joint Replacement Center,” says Dr. Velyvis. “In my three years since joining Desert Orthopedic Center at Eisenhower Medical Center, I have seen this excellent service line improve in every facet of patient care. Our team has worked very hard to provide the best and most modern care for our patients. The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval is another distinction for our group that will give our patients in the community full confidence in using Eisenhower for their orthopedic needs.”
The Joint Commission launched its Disease-Specific Care Certification program in 2002. It is the first program of its kind in the country to certify disease management programs. A list of programs certified by the Joint Commission is available at www.jointcommission.org.
