  • TWO YEARS IN A ROW! Eisenhower Medical Center Ranked #1 in Inland Empire a by U.S. News and World Report

U.S. News and World Report has released its annual hospital rankings. For the second consecutive year, Eisenhower Medical Center ranks #1 in the Inland Empire and #16 in California (up five spots from last year).

Hospitals are rated as High Performing, Average or Below Average for each procedure or condition, and there is no overall assessment across the group. The analysis includes a mix of risk-adjusted data on readmission rates, mortality and other outcomes, the occurrence of common types of health care-acquired infections, federally mandated patient satisfaction surveys and selected hospital survey measures.

Eisenhower Medical Center was rated High Performing in nine types of care — the highest number of specialty recognitions earned by a hospital in the Inland Empire. Eisenhower is one of only 48 hospitals in the country, barely one percent of hospitals evaluated, that was high performing in all nine areas of care. read more...

  • Lynn¬ís Lifetime of Pain

“I’ve suffered chronic pain literally all of my adult life,” says La Quinta’s Lynn Muslovski, 67, who has long battled not only fibromyalgia but various forms of congenital arthritis, including an autoimmune version that occurs as a reaction to a bacterial infection and affects the joints, the eyes, the urethra, and skin. “I would get really bad iritis in my right eye. Mouth ulcers. I’d hurt all over. Bladder infections, vaginal infections. Anything you can think of, I had.”

Try as they may, the litany of general physicians and specialists Muslovski consulted provided scant relief. Regular steroid injections caused her to develop diabetes, and she feared she would acquire a serious dependence on painkillers. On disability since the age of 48, the retired banking vice president returned to the desert from Utah with her husband in 1995. By 2000, the intricate degenerative disc disease in her spine was so severe that Muslovski says, “I was at the point where I was going to be in a wheelchair. I couldn’t walk or stand at all.” read more...
