Eisenhower is offering its Quit Smoking Now smoking cessation program beginning November 13.
November is recognized nationally as Lung Cancer Awareness Month — 30 days to focus on raising awareness and providing education about lung cancer prevention, detection and treatment. Eisenhower Medical Center understands the importance of educating the public on the risks associated with lung cancer and will offer free lectures throughout the month and by appointment only, free lung health screenings.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death for both men and women, according to the American Cancer Society. Although the disease is rare among people under the age of 45, more people die from lung cancer than from colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. These numbers include both smokers and non-smokers — however, the risks are much greater for smokers.

Eisenhower Medical Center physicians specializing in diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology and medical oncology will provide important information and updates on topics that matter most to lung cancer patients, survivors and their families. Also offered in November is Eisenhower’s Smoking Cessation Workshop — a program designed to help smokers quit smoking and develop coping skills to combat the psychological and physical side effects of smoking cessation. The cost for the six-week program is $100, which includes presentations on stress reduction and nutrition, and focuses on an active, pragmatic approach to quitting smoking with each participant directing his or her own efforts to quit. Lectures will be held at Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center.
