    His own words exemplify the focus, determination and discipline that football great Tom Flores brought to his professional career. The first Hispanic quarterback in American professional football, Tom played for the Oakland Raiders from 1960 to 1961 and 1963 to 1966, and was the first quarterback in Raiders history to throw for 400 yards in a game. He went on to become the first Hispanic head coach in NFL history, leading the Raiders to two Super Bowl championships (1980 and 1983) during his tenure.

    So when Tom needed surgery in February of 2010 to repair a torn rotator cuff, he exhibited the same kind of commitment in order to get back to the activities he enjoys, including golf and playing catch with his grandsons.read more...

    Palm Springs Modernism Week, one of the country’s most popular annual events celebrating mid-century modern design, architecture and culture, is slated for February 16 through 26, 2012.

    Recently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Eisenhower Medical Center is a sponsor of this year’s event which will showcase architect Hicks Stone. Stone is the youngest child of architect Edward Durell Stone who designed Eisenhower Hospital and will lecture about his father’s architectural contributions to the valley.

    Launched in 2006 as the only event of its kind, Palm Springs Modernism Week has helped fuel a robust national interest in the preservation and appreciation of modernism. Modernism, a popular design aesthetic that originated in the 1950s and ‘60s, was typified by clean, simple lines and celebrated elegant informality that came to define desert modernism as a sought-after architectural genre. read more...

    Eisenhower’s sixth annual Day of Caring…About Women and Cancer will take place at the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center on Friday, February 10, 2012, from 9:15 a.m. to noon.

    Presentations will take place in the Berger Auditorium. Registration and a light brunch begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Healing Gardens.
